Save the sentence you just heard
Choose the app you listen to, allow audio access, press ⌥S when a sentence ends, then check and save it.
How it works
LingoClipper listens to one app you choose, such as a browser, podcast app or video player, and keeps the last 30 seconds of its audio in memory. When you press ⌥S, it recognizes the speech on your Mac and picks out the sentence that just ended.
It never uses your microphone and does not capture its own sound. Audio is written to your Mac only when you save a Clip or make a recording.
1. Set up
The first time you open LingoClipper, a short setup walks you through these steps. You can also do them later in Capture.
- Click Choose Source and pick the app that plays the audio. If it is not listed, open the app and click Refresh.
- When macOS asks whether LingoClipper may record audio from that app, allow it.
- Play something in the app. When LingoClipper says it is listening to that app, you are ready.
2. Press ⌥S after a sentence
Press ⌥S (Option-S) right after a sentence you want to keep. The shortcut works in any app while LingoClipper is running, even when its windows are closed.
You can also click Clip What I Just Heard in Capture or in the menu bar. LingoClipper needs at least two seconds of audio first.
3. Check and save
The Latest Clip window opens, recognizes the speech on your Mac and selects the suggested sentence.
- Click neighboring sentences to keep a longer continuous range.
- Drag the start and end handles, or use the arrow keys, to fine-tune the audio. Play Selection plays it, and Reset to Suggestion undoes your changes.
- Correct the text if a word is wrong, and translate it if you like.
Click Save Clip to add it to your Library. Nothing is added before you save, and pressing ⌥S again replaces a Latest Clip you have not saved.
Floating buttons
Floating Quick Clip Button stays above other windows, and you can drag it anywhere. Clicking it does the same as ⌥S. Floating Record Button starts and stops a long recording. Both are shown until you turn them off in Settings.
If something goes wrong
- Capture needs attention: audio access may be off, or the app quit. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, allow LingoClipper, then click Retry Capture.
- No Speech Detected: the recent audio held only silence, music or sound effects. Play some speech and press ⌥S again.
- Possibly incomplete: the sentence touches the edge of the captured audio. It may have started more than 30 seconds earlier, or not finished when you pressed ⌥S.
- ⌥S does nothing: another app may use the same shortcut, and LingoClipper shows a message when it does. Quit that app and restart LingoClipper; meanwhile, use the floating button or the menu bar.
- Changing the source clears the audio in memory, so the new app starts from zero.
Free plan limit
The free plan keeps up to 100 Clips. When you reach the limit, delete Clips you no longer need or get Pro.
