Questions and answers
General
What is LingoClipper?
LingoClipper is a language-learning app for Mac that turns real audio into sentences you can replay, study, and review with spaced repetition.
Is it only for learning languages?
No. You can capture or record anything that plays on your Mac — online courses, lectures, podcasts — then replay it sentence by sentence and review it on schedule. Speech recognition supports English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, and Spanish.
Can I save a sentence from a video or podcast on my Mac?
Yes. Choose the app that is playing — a browser, a podcast app, or a video player — and press ⌥S right after you hear the sentence. LingoClipper picks out the sentence that just ended for you to check and save. Only capture audio you have the right to use; LingoClipper doesn’t get around the copy protection (DRM) on videos or music.
Does LingoClipper upload my audio?
Not for recognition. Speech recognition runs on your device.
Which languages does it support?
Speech recognition works in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, and Spanish, with automatic detection. Translations can go into any of those languages, plus Traditional Chinese. The app itself is available in seven languages.
Do I need an account?
No. You only enter an email address if you buy, claim or recover Mac Pro.
Is LingoClipper free?
Yes, to start. On Mac, Free includes up to 100 saved clips and 3 automatic full-recording transcriptions — enough for basic study. Pro removes those limits.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Capture, speech recognition, playback, and review work without a connection. Translation needs each language pack downloaded once, sync needs a connection, and Mac Pro goes online from time to time to renew its license.
Mac app
Which apps can I capture from?
Any app that plays sound on your Mac, such as a browser, a video player, or a podcast or course app. If the app has not played anything since it opened, start playback first.
Does LingoClipper record my microphone on Mac?
No. On Mac, LingoClipper records the audio of the app you choose.
Why does macOS mention screen recording?
macOS lists audio capture under Screen & System Audio Recording. LingoClipper asks only for audio from the app you choose.
Can I change the shortcut?
Not yet. Quick Clip uses ⌥S. If another app already uses ⌥S, LingoClipper tells you about the conflict.
What happens when I reach 100 clips on Free?
All saved clips stay. To save more, delete some clips or upgrade to Pro.
Can I move Pro to a new Mac?
Yes. Recover your license on the new Mac with the same email address. Pro is active on one Mac at a time.
