Privacy settings and permissions
What LingoClipper can access on your Mac, how to change it, and how to turn usage statistics on or off.
Audio access
LingoClipper asks macOS for permission to record system audio, and uses it only for the one app you choose. It does not use the microphone or the camera, and it does not record your screen.
To change this permission, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.
Usage statistics
Usage statistics stay off unless you turn them on. LingoClipper asks once during setup, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy & Storage › Share usage statistics.
When they are on, LingoClipper sends PostHog four kinds of events: one when statistics are first turned on, one a day when you use the app, one when you save a Clip, and one when you start a recording. Each event carries the app version, the region set on your Mac, a random ID for the current launch, and a random installation ID that is hashed before sending. Audio, text, app names, file names and your email are never included.
Details are in the privacy policy.
What stays on your Mac
Clips, recordings, segments, translations, words and review history are stored in LingoClipper’s folder on your Mac. Speech recognition uses a model built into the app, and translation uses Apple’s on-device translation.
